Mitchell Robinson will set the NBA record for single-season field goal percentage if he isn’t passed by players participating in games in Orlando, per an SNY source familiar with the matter.
Robinson finished the season with a 74.2 FG%. Wilt Chamberlain has the single-season record (72.7%).
When the season was suspended due to coronavirus on March 11, it was unknown if the NBA would view Robinson’s field-goal percentage as a league record.
The Athletic reported that regular season awards will be based on regular season play through March 11. So those awards won’t take play in the Orlando bubble into account.
But statistics from games in Orlando will count toward league records.
It is unlikely that any player will surpass Robinson’s field goal percentage.
Per Fansided’s Vivek Dadhania, Utah’s Rudy Gobert would need to make at least 89 field goals without a miss during the eight games in Orlando in order to pass Robinson for the single-season record.
In 61 games, Robinson made 253 of 341 attempts this season. Most (315) of Robinson’s attempts came at the rim, per Basketball-Reference.com. Twenty five of his attempts came between three and 10 feet. One attempt came between 10 and 16 feet.
