Begley's Mailbag: How real are Knicks - Myles Turner trade talks?

Plus, what would New York have to deal for him?

SNY's Ian Begley will be responding to and breaking down answers to Knicks questions from readers. Here's the latest...

@lekaj (Urim Lekaj) -- How real is [Myles] Turner chatter? Would a package with [Mitchell Robinson], Kemba [Walker] or [Quentin] Grimes, [Kevin] Knox (expiring) and say Hornets’ 1st be enough?

A little addendum on this one: This is just an opinion, but I can’t see Indiana doing a deal without getting either Obi Toppin or Immanuel Quickley back.

I guess New York could include draft compensation in place of either Toppin or Quickley. But it’s fair to assume that Indiana would have other competitive offers for Turner. Offers that might be more enticing than second-round picks or picks in the bottom half of the first round.

There are Knicks decision-makers in favor of pursuing Turner. But will the Knicks ultimately be willing to pay the price to get him?

Something else to consider: If you’re the Knicks and you trade for Turner, you are presumably committed to signing him to another contract. So you’d be committing significant money to Julius Randle and Turner with an extension for RJ Barrett looming.

One last thing: If you trade Quickley or Toppin and/or a future first rounder for Turner, does that leave you enough trade capital to swing another deal for a star?

All things worth considering when you’re thinking about a trade for Turner.
