Jets trade star safety Jamal Adams to Seattle for two first-round picks and more

After months of asking for a new contract, Jamal Adams is now on his way out of New York.

SNY NFL Insider Ralph Vacchiano has confirmed that the Jets have agreed to trade Adams to the Seattle Seahawks. The deal was first reported by Brian Costello of the New York Post

The Jets are trading Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick to Seattle in exchange for two first round picks (2021 and 2022), a 2021 third-round pick, and safety Bradley McDougald.

The star safety recently criticized Jets owner Woody Johnson on Twitter, and then took shots at GM Joe Douglas and head coach Adam Gase in a recent interview with the New York Daily News, saying that Gase is “not the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land.”

Following the news of the trade, Adams tweeted out a message, saying:

To NY & especially the Jets fans:
I love you & will always love you. You all will hold a special place in my heart forever. When I came into the league, you embraced me & watched me grow! We went through it all together. Thank you for the Luv & support these 3 years.

On Friday, Adams told the New York Daily News that Douglas and the team were now open to trading him, about a month after Adams and his agent officially requested to be traded.

Douglas has previously said multiple times that his goal was to keep Adams "a Jet for life," despite listening to offers for the Pro Bowl safety around last year's trade deadline, when the Dallas Cowboys were reportedly interested.

Adams had done it all for the Jets since being selected with the sixth overall pick in 2017.  The two-time Pro Bowl selection totaled 12.0 sacks, two interceptions, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
