The Jets are adding a new tight end to their roster, as Stone Smartt has agreed to a one-year contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Smartt, who signed with the Chargers as an undrafted prospect in 2022, was non-tendered by the team this offseason. The 26-year-old played 38 games across three seasons in Los Angeles, racking up 31 receptions (45 targets) for 380 yards with a single touchdown.

A former quarterback for Old Dominion who converted into a pass-catcher, Smartt joins a Jets tight end room that currently includes Jeremy Ruckert, Zack Kuntz, Neal Johnson, and Andrew Beck. The competition could also grow for Smartt, as New York reportedly has interest in re-signing veteran Tyler Conklin.
