The Jets are signing quarterback Justin Fields, SNY NFL Insider Connor Hughes confirms.

The deal is for two years and $40 million, with $30 million guaranteed.

Hughes reported earlier on Monday that there was "a lot of hype building from other teams" that Fields would sign with the Jets.

With Fields on board, the Jets now have the quarterback they hope will successfully usher them out of the disappointing Aaron Rodgers era. Fields is now Gang Green's QB1, with Tyrod Taylor set to be the backup.

In New York, Fields will be reunited with former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson, who had grown frustrated with his role last season while Rodgers was at the helm.

Fields, 26, spent last season with the Steelers after playing the first three years of his career with the Bears.

Pittsburgh had significant interest in retaining Fields before he wound up in New York.

In 10 games (six starts) for Pittsburgh in 2024, Fields completed 106 of 161 passes for 1,107 yards while throwing five touchdowns and one interception. Fields' 65.8 completion percentage last season was the best of his career.

On the ground, Fields ran for 289 yards on 62 attempts -- including five touchdowns.

In 50 games (44 starts) during his four-year career, Fields has completed 684 of 1,119 passes (61.1 completion percentage) for 7,780 yards while tossing 45 touchdowns to 31 interceptions.

Fields' injury history in the NFL is relatively minor. The only injury that has cost him more than one game was a dislocated right thumb he suffered in October of 2023 that kept him out for four games.

While Fields' legs are a weapon, he has also been highly susceptible to the pass rush. He was sacked a league-high 55 times in 15 games in 2022, and 44 times in 13 games in 2023. Fields improved in that regard last season, though, getting sacked just 16 times in 10 games.
