The firing comes after questionable call that led to loss on Sunday

A day after the Jets shockingly lost in the final seconds to the Las Vegas Raiders, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been fired, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed.

Vacchiano also confirmed that the Jets intend to name assistant head coach Frank Bush as the interim defensive coordinator.

Williams was critiqued heavily for his choice to send an all-out blitz on Derek Carr and the Raiders offense with just 13 second left to play in a four-point game. The play call backfired, with Henry Ruggs III scoring the game-winning touchdown as rookie CB Lamar Jackson got burned had no help behind him.

Safety Marcus Maye even said after the game that there should've been a better play called there.

"Just felt like it could’ve been a better call in that situation," he said.

"It’s tough. We fought hard to put ourselves in a position to win."

Williams' son, Blake, is an assistant on the Jets and is expected to move on as well.

After serving as defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns -- and then interim head coach when Freddie Kitchens was fired during the 2018 season -- Williams joined the Jets in 2019 as their DC under head coach Adam Gase

Though the offense sputtered last season, Williams' defense was very solid and looked promising with young players showing good development.

This season, though, has been a different story and the loss to the Raiders was the last straw.
