Jets activate WR Mike Williams off PUP list, sign RB Deon Jackson

Williams tore his ACL in left knee last September

The Jets announced on Wednesday that wide receiver Mike Williams has been activated off of the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Williams, who signed a one-year deal with the Jets this offseason, tore his ACL in his left knee just three games into last season as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Williams, a huge target for Aaron Rodgers at 6-foot-4, 218 pounds, can begin practicing right away now that he’s passed his physical, but it’s likely that the Jets will ease him back in slowly to have him fully healthy for the start of the regular season on September 9.

In 88 career games with the Chargers, Williams had 309 catches for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns. If healthy, Williams will likely start on the outside opposite of Garrett Wilson, giving Rodgers and the Jets a physical presence at receiver, something that could come up big in red zone opportunities.

Jets sign RB Deon Jackson

The Jets made another roster move on Wednesday, signing running back Deon Jackson while releasing receiver Hamze El-Zayat.

Jackson, a Duke product who initially signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2021, has played the majority of his career with the Colts, though he also had cups of coffee with the Cleveland Browns and Giants last season.

In 29 career games (27 with the Colts), Jackson has 283 career rushing yards and two touchdowns, adding 223 receiving yards as well.

El-Zayat, an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan, signed with the Jets in May after a rookie minicamp tryout.
