Maybe the Jets realized they should have had a veteran quarterback after all.

With Zach Wilson out for up to a month with a sprained PCL, the Jets traded for Joe Flacco on Monday evening, SNY NFL Insider Ralph Vacchiano confirmed.

The Jets sounded confident in Mike White, and have stuck true to their belief that they did not need a veteran QB to mentor Wilson, but alas, that is now the case.

It's safe to assume that Flacco will start until Wilson comes back - the Jets are sending the Philadelphia Eagles a conditional sixth-round pick to Philadelphia that can possibly be a fifth-round pick depending on how often Flacco plays.

Flacco was with the Jets last year and played while Sam Darnold was injured.

Earlier on Monday, head coach Robert Saleh said there is a silver lining in Wilson being hurt in that he can watch another quarterback operate the system.

"I think it’s always good to be able to step away and just watch the offense through the lens of another quarterback..." Saleh said. "To be able to watch another quarterback go through the same system I think can help him generate more of an identity in how he operates within it.”

It will probably be easier for the rookie to take notes from a Super Bowl champion rather than someone who made his NFL debut on Sunday in White.
