Mets ace Jacob deGrom will be heading to southeast Florida to pitch in a rehab start for the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday, Luis Rojas announced.

Rojas said on Tuesday that deGrom's bullpen session went well and he felt "really good." However, the team was waiting to see how he felt the next day and was thinking about a potential rehab start to make sure deGrom is perfect before making his return.

Obviously now that appears to be the move the team wants to make.

"We're taking everything into consideration, just from what's happened the last two weeks from him, but we want to see on a daily basis how his body responds to different things, see if there's any tightness," Rojas said Tuesday. "But his feedback has been -- yesterday, he threw his touch-and-feel, it was all good, nothing. Today's been all good, nothing. So we'll see how it is for the rest of the day and then tomorrow, and we can share what we plan to do with him as far as the next steps."

So, with deGrom heading to St. Lucie now, he won't be available this weekend which would've been the case if the Mets believed he was ready to go.

The Rockies series at Citi Field next week would be probable if everything goes well during and after the St. Lucie start.

DeGrom has been dealing with right side soreness, which forced him on the IL on May 11.
