Jacob deGrom had a solid outing in Thursday's suspended game with the Cardinals, but he did show some frustration on the mound.

In the top of the third inning, with Harrison Bader on third base and two away, the Mets elected to shift their infield for Matt Carpenter. deGrom forced Carpenter to hit a slow roller to short stop, but there was no defender there for the Mets, allowing Bader to score the first run of the game.

DeGrom was visibly upset when he returned to the dugout.

"He battled me and got to 3-2, and then you make a pitch and you feel like it's an out and you look back and nobody's there. I was frustrated," deGrom said. "I think anybody would be. The goal is to not give up runs, and you feel like you make a pitch and it finds a hole. It's frustrating."

"I think he was a little frustrated that the guy stole third and then he scored on an infield single that didn't even get out of the infield," Mickey Callaway said after the game was suspended. "We'll always do what's comfortable for the pitcher, and they have a lot of say before the game. We want them to own it and understand where they're going to play and they have the option to move them before the game, move them in the game, so they're comfortable with every scenario."

In Carpenter's third at-bat, the Mets chose not to shift him, though deGrom said he had nothing to do with that change.

"I didn't implement it," deGrom said. "I honestly don't even look back that much at where the infielders are, so I think that was part of the frustration. I thought I was out of the inning, and then I honestly didn't know they didn't shift the next time up."

DeGrom went seven strong innings on Thursday, allowing just two earned while striking out eight Cardinals. After Edwin Diaz blew the save, deGrom won't get a win out of his performance, but his team can.

"Hopefully we win this game," deGrom said with a smirk.
