The new Islanders front-office appears to be doing their due-diligence.

New York has had talks with RFA Noah Dobson about a new deal this offseason, but according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman they’ve also been floating him on the trade block to see what kind of interest is out there.

“I have heard they are testing the market on him,” Friedman said this week. “I know there have been a lot of rumors around [Alexander] Romanov, but I’ve had a few people tell me that Dobson is the guy to really keep an eye on.”

Dobson is rumored to be seeking an extension worth $11 million per season.

The 25-year-old former first-round pick is coming off an injury-plagued campaign in which he took a major step back in the point-department, finishing with just 39 over 71 games -- his lowest total in four seasons.

But the season before that he broke out and finished eighth in Norris Trophy voting.

First-year GM Mathieu Darche praised Dobson and called him a core player during his intro presser, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be willing to give him the highest AAV extension in franchise history.

Romanov continues to be a popular name on the market as well.

The Bruins and the Flyers were two teams connected to him in reports, but the Isles are expected to pick up extension talks with him ahead of the draft so the asking price in a potential deal is said to be very high.
