Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk will miss 3-4 weeks with a lower-body injury he suffered during Game 4 of their first-round series against the Penguins, GM Lou Lamoriello said on Friday.
Boychuk blocked a shot off his right leg in the second period of Tuesday's win over the Penguins and did not return.
The Islanders will not begin their Eastern Conference semifinal series until late next week. They face the winner of the Capitals-Hurricanes series, which is currently tied at 2 games apiece. Game 6 is Monday and a potential Game 7 would be Wednesday.
Cal Clutterbuck and Scott Mayfield did not practice on Friday with what Lamoriello called a "maintenance day." Head coach Barry Trotz said on Thursday that Tanner Fritz, who has been dealing with a hand injury, is close to skating again but did not offer a timeframe for his return.
