6/17/18 | According to Larry Brooks, in the NY Post, Ilya Kovalchuk has not ruled out signing with the Rangers but that he "probably" won't. (NY Post)
Brooks adds though that Kovalchuk "would only come" to the Rangers if they acquired a "player or two" that would help "vault" them into contending status. (NY Post)
Kovalchuk has said that his top priority is trying to win a Stanley Cup and has drawn interest from teams like LA, San Jose, St. Louis and Boston.

Adam Rotter: Reports early on in the process indicating that Kovalchuk was going to come to the Rangers and while at the time those indications may have been true, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. There is a lot of interest in Kovalchuk and a lot of interest from teams that will head into next season with, on paper, a much greater chance at the Stanley Cup. Kovalchuk has said that his goal in returning to the NHL is to win the Stanley Cup and I am sure that is even more of the case now after seeing his friend Alex Ovechkin finally win. I don't think the Rangers should be ruled out, but it seems more likely he will return from the KHL and play for someone else.
