DeGrom roughed up while Mets make flurry of roster moves

The Mets (20-23, 4.5 GB in the NL East) lost the opening game of a three-game set against the Marlins 8-6. They try to bounce back on Saturday in a late afternoon matchup in Miami.

Here's what went down on Friday, in case you missed it:

Jacob deGrom imploded against the worst team in baseball and a late rally proved to be too little too late in an 8-6 loss to the Marlins. The right-hander took accountability for the loss after the game.

Prior to the game, the Mets made a flurry of roster moves, which included Michael Conforto being placed on the 7-day concussion IL, Keon Broxton designated for assignment, the selection of Carlos Gomez's contract and recalled RHP Paul Sewald from Triple-A.

Gomez played in his first game as a Met since 2007. The 33-year-old outfielder said his only expectation is to help the Mets reach the playoffs.

Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen addressed a number of topics, including questions on Mickey Callaway before Friday's game.

SNY's Matt Cerrone breaks down how things can play out between the Mets and Zack Wheeler, who is a free agent after the season.

Pete Alonso continues to put together a fine rookie season, blasting two more home runs, giving him 14 on the season, in Friday's loss to the Marlins.
