After their stunning loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night, the Yankees are somehow just one game over .500, a mark that -- before the season -- we would've thought to be impossible for this team with three weeks left in the regular season.

But here we are.

The Yankees are 21-20 through 41 games in 2020, and have just 19 games remaining before the start of the playoffs.

However, making the postseason at all — let alone at a high seed — is looking more concerning than ever after Monday night. For a team that came into the season with serious World Series aspirations, the disappointment is smoldering — but not aflame just yet.

"It's part of being a pro," Aaron Boone said on the Yankees' struggles. "In this game, I don't care how good you are, that adversity is coming for you. You've got to be able to handle it and you've got to deal with it and you've got to make adjustments day-to-day, and we'll continue to work to do that."

With their 21-20 record, the Yankees are sitting in the final playoff spot at the No. 8 seed in the AL side of the bracket, but have the Orioles on their tail just 1.5 games behind.

The Yanks could add some comfort to their seeding spot in their series with the Blue Jays, who are two games ahead of them in the standings and currently the No. 6 seed.

New York has a realistic shot at climbing into the Top 6 if they can get fully healthy and change their club atmosphere in the very near future.

But until that happens, the Yankees have to work with what they've got and get out of this funk before they put themselves at even more of a risk at not making the playoffs at all.
