The real grades, of course, will come in wins and losses and where the Yankees end up. Or in the future, when the players involved either bloom or wilt.

But give the Yanks credit for this: They used this year’s MLB Trade Deadline to address some huge needs in their potentially powerful, but obviously-flawed team.

They were desperate for an offensive spark – and, perhaps, a jolt overall – so they traded for the flashy, talented Jazz Chisholm. They needed bat-missing relievers, so they added Mark Leiter Jr. and Enyel De Los Santos.

Not bad. Still, it’s fair to ask if the Yankees did enough.

Could they have used another starting pitcher? Probably, especially with Gerrit Cole scratched Tuesday night with body fatigue after a stomach bug and workload concerns looming over Luis Gil.

They perhaps should have added a thumper on one of the infield corners, too, although they may think that Chisholm counts there.

Either way, here’s how the Yankees grade out in the immediate afterglow of the trade deadline:

For a team that was looking less athletic by the inning, Chisholm should be an important acquisition. He has speed, slug, and can play anywhere from center field to second base and the Yanks will use him at third, too, as they did on Monday. He made a diving stop in that game.

“You’re going to be impressed by his athleticism,” a scout from an opposing organization said of Chisholm. “He’ll come to the ballpark with serious energy, every day.”

Chisholm, 26, plays with flair and that might rub some of the more uptight types in Yankeeland the wrong way – Oh, no! He was wearing his cap backward pregame the other day! Lighten up, Chisholm can play – He had 15 homers, 23 steals and a .745 OPS in 103 games entering Tuesday night’s game in Philadelphia. He’s been brilliant with runners in scoring position this season with a .972 OPS so far.

One concern with Chisholm is his injury history. His career-best in games in a single season is just 124 in 2021 and he’s already reached his second-highest total this season. But there’s plenty to dream on if he remains healthy and maybe he’ll respond to the Bronx spotlight and pennant fight and thrive.

Chisholm won’t be a free agent until 2027 and he profiles as a likely replacement at second base after this season, since Gleyber Torres, a free-agent-to-be, seems unlikely to be re-signed.

Of the three prospects the Yankees sent to Miami, Agustín Ramírez, who turns 23 next month, is the headliner. He’s got real power and a chance to become an everyday catcher in the major leagues for an organization that needed catching help. He had a .942 OPS and 16 homers in 58 games in AA before getting promoted. In 29 AAA games, he had four homers and a .693 OPS before the trade.

“If the bat plays, it’s a pretty good piece,” the scout said. “A lot of people in the game like the bat.”

Serna, 22, had a .785 OPS and 13 homers in 88 games at high-A Hudson Valley and helps bulk up their middle-infield hopefuls. So does Abrahan Ramirez, who will be 20 in October. He had big numbers for the Yanks’ team in the Florida Complex League, batting .348 with a .447 on-base and .513 slugging.

Yankees Grade: A

Chisholm is not a rental and, while they gave up what appears to be a good prospect in Ramírez, Chisholm will help this year and beyond and will make the Yanks more dynamic. Strong move.
