The Giants have officially moved on from Daniel Jones, releasing the quarterback on Friday.
Jones asked to be released following his benching after a Week 10 loss against the Carolina Panthers in Germany and New York granted his request.
Owner John Mara issued a statement after the news broke:
"Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team. Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that.
"We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish him nothing but the best in the future."
The 27-year-old spent six seasons with Big Blue after being drafted No. 6 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. In 70 games (69 starts), he went 24-44-1 while throwing 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
Soon after the announcement, head coach Brian Daboll spoke to reporters about the situation, saying "we wish [Jones] all the best" and that he's "got a ton of respect" for the quarterback who we called a "true pro."
"This was not an easy situation when things happen like this," Daboll continued. "... He put a lot into it, and he’s a great young man. It’s never easy."
Coming back from a torn ACL he suffered in the middle of last season, Jones struggled this season despite having more weapons, including first-round draft pick Malik Nabers, and an improved offensive line. Through 10 weeks, Jones and the Giants were 2-8 as he threw for just eight touchdowns and had seven interceptions.
His struggles were amplified at MetLife Stadium, especially this season, where New York's offense mustered just one offensive touchdown through its first four home games.
The Giants will get another chance at home on Sunday when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Tommy DeVito getting the start.
"We’ve got to get ready to play here," Daboll said. "I did [speak with the players], kind of right before we had a little bit of a walkthrough. I let them know [about Jones]. I wanted them to hear it, and then obviously we put out the statement… It’s never an easy situation.
"He asked for this, and I just thought where we were and him playing versus not playing, it was the right decision for him."
