In an expected move, the Giants have released cornerback James Bradberry, the team announced.

Bradberry's cap hit for the 2022 season was prohibitive for a Giants team that still needs to sign all of its picks from the draft. Entering the third and final season of a three-year deal worth $45 million, Bradberry was set to count for $21.8 million against the cap.

By releasing him, the Giants will create $10.1 million in cap, while he will still be an $11.7 million hit in dead cap. In all, the Giants are saving about $11.5 million.

Had the Giants been able to trade Bradberry, they would've been able to slash about $13.4 million.

Speaking on May 4, Giants GM Joe Schoen discussed Bradberry's situation, hinting that a release was coming.

In his two seasons with the Giants, Bradberry played in 32 of a possible 33 games, snatching seven interceptions (three in 2020, four in 2021) and forcing two fumbles.

With Bradberry gone, the Giants' depth chart at corner is not very lengthy. Adoree' Jackson is set to be one of the starters, with recent draftee Cor'Dale Flott, Darnay Holmes, and Aaron Robinson among the other options.

According to SNY NFL Insider Ralph Vacchiano, the Chiefs, Commanders, Raiders, and Texans all have interest in bringing in the newly free agent, and they all talked with the Giants about a possible trade. But as Schoen noted, the finances never worked out.
