Evan Engram has officially been placed on Injured Reserve, the team announced on Tuesday, ending a long "will he, won't he" stretch where it was unclear whether Engram would be able to suit up from week-to-week.
The third-year tight end finishes the 2019 season with just eight games played , a career-low for Engram, who played 15 games his rookie season and 11 last year.
Engram has been sidelined since Week 10 with a foot injury that did not heal fast enough for him to return to the field. With the Giants record at 2-12, rushing him back was seemingly not something of a concern for the team.
In his eight games on the field this season, Engram caught 44 passes for 467 yards and three touchdowns.
Additionally, the Giants signed WR David Sills to the active roster off the practice squad after sending Engram to the IR.
The Giants came into the season with playmakers Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate, Saquon Barkley and Engram on their offense, but between the injuries they've suffered and Tate's suspension to start the year, the team will officially not see all four on the field at the same time this season.
Having this many offensive weapons on the roster after drafting Daniel Jones with the No. 6 pick in last year's draft and not seeing them all on the field for him--or Eli Manning-- was certainly not the plan.
The Giants will head into the offseason with some decisions to make when it comes to Engram, whose fifth-year option on his rookie contract comes up in 2020.
