Do you think the Giants should re-sign Cor’Dale Flott? — @MasterZ978

It’s absolutely something the Giants need to explore. He’s been a bright spot in an otherwise dismal season. Quarterbacks have thrown at Flott 39 times and completed 21 passes (53.8 percent) for 246 yards. He has yet to allow a touchdown, per Pro Football Focus. His overall defensive grade (75.9) and coverage grade (79.6) are far and away the best of his career.

The cornerback situation, when Paulson Adebo is healthy, has hardly been the issue many expected entering this season. It’s not the league’s best secondary, but it’s far from a liability. Letting Flott walk seems pointless when you’d have to replace him with assets — a draft pick or free agent dollars — that could be used to fill other needs.

Receiver Jalin Hyatt and tackle Evan Neal’s stock can’t get any lower. The Giants aren’t a good team, and you’re talking about two players who can’t consistently contribute on a bad team. The Jets recently traded Michael Carter II, a legit nickel corner, for a pick swap. The Titans did the same with Jarvis Brownlee. Those are players who can play, and they only fetched swaps.

Hyatt, outside a few flashes as a rookie, and Neal haven’t shown they can contribute at all. In fact, when they’re on the field, they’ve often looked like liabilities. It was always a pipe dream to think the Giants were getting anything meaningful for them.

Schoen wasn’t asleep at the wheel, though. He made legitimate efforts to acquire receivers at the deadline. The prices were simply too steep. Take Jaylen Waddle, for example. The Giants likely would have done a deal if Miami wanted a second-round pick. Sources told SNY the Dolphins weren’t moving him unless they got a first-round pick and more.

There’s a good chance the Giants end up picking in the top 10 — maybe even the top five. In no world do you part with that for Waddle.
