Smiling as he said it, Giants safety Julian Love took a couple of shots at Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni during an appearance on NFL Network's Good Morning Football on Thursday morning.
"He's a good coach who really is doing a great job because he's not getting in the way of his team," Love said at first. "He has an experienced roster from top to bottom, offense, defense."
As the NFL Network showed clips of Sirianni mean mugging for the camera late in the Eagles' blowout win over the San Francisco 49ersin the NFC title game (when the Niners were playing without any fully functioning quarterbacks from the second quarter on), Love took aim at Sirianni.
"I don't like it. I don't like it at all," Love said. "He's in for a free ride right now. You guys can coach this team. I mean, come on."
Love was alluding to the loaded roster Sirianni has, including Philly's vaunted pass rush, MVP candidate Jalen Hurts, and game-changing wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Unsurprisingly, Love has been receiving vitriol on Twitter all day from the Eagles' rabid fans.
Eagles DE Brandon Graham also weighed in.
"People always got something to say when they’re at home," Graham said. "I just know that coach Sirianni — it don’t matter — what he did last year, with a team that nobody thought was gonna do much, he ended up getting us to the playoffs.
"Then for his second year, that’s what you’re supposed to do — you’re supposed to get better, bring players in to do exactly what you need them to do and we did that. A lot of people just mad because of what happened this season and I understand. It definitely carried no weight because coach proved himself each and every day and if you’re not in here, you wouldn’t really know that. It’s just all lip service."
On Thursday afternoon, Love responded by doubling down on Twitter.
"Philly fans sure don’t like this one lol… but I’m not wrong. This is a players league, and Philly has dogs on the roster top to bottom. It’s no mystery why they’re in this position."
