Giants GM Joe Schoen is gearing up for his first training camp with a new team, and he was honest with the New York Post's Paul Schwartz about how he's going to feel.

"Me going out there being a nervous wreck," he said.

Honestly, you could ask every GM and coach in the league and lots would say the exact same time thing. A part of that is due to injuries that happen in training camp -- every GM and coach wants all their players to be healthy. When the pads go on and intensity rises with camp battles, injuries occur. You just hope it's not your most crucial players.

For Schoen's Giants, though, nerves are added because this is a rebuilding club. There's no win-loss record that needs to be achieved, or a bar set on when playoffs need to happen. But Schoen wants to make sure his process, his foundation, is the correct one.

What didn't help that process was the Giants' awful cap situation, where Schoen had to cut and maneuver players to make sure he had enough to sign his draft class, let alone free agents.

"Could we have done better? Yeah, if we had $40 million in cap space, yeah,” Schoen said when asked about strengthening his roster. "With what we had, I think we executed a plan. We were able to upgrade the roster with the resources we had."

Those upgrades had to be inexpensive, like veteran QB Tyrod Taylor to back up Daniel Jones, and offensive line additions Mark Glowinski, Max Garcia, Matt Gono and Jon Feliciano. The additions were all guys looking to prove themselves.
