In that moment, a Giants win quite literally slipped through Engram’s fingers.

“Got the look we wanted. Third down, we got a man look. I won on the inside fade, DJ threw a great ball, and just didn’t finish the play,” Engram said.

“Obviously, it sucked not making that play. … Obviously it’s frustrating. It’s not a good feeling, not making that play and possibly putting the game on ice.”

When asked if he thought it was a play he should have made, Engram replied: “100 percent. I’ve got to make that.”

The Ole Miss product had six catches for 46 yards on the night, and the Giants even got him involved with handoffs a couple of times to feature him more in the offense.

But when the Giants needed one play near the end of the game, Engram just couldn’t get it done. Still, his head coach was pleased overall by the effort Engram gave on Thursday night.

“I thought he made a lot of plays to keep us in the game, bringing us back when we were down and struggling on offense. Evan had a lot of production for us tonight,” Joe Judge said after the game. “We’ll keep on playing with him, he’s a guy that we have to keep involved in our offense, we have to keep getting him targets like we did tonight. He’s definitely a guy who helped us. We’ll look at the tape and obviously make any corrections possible, but we’ve got to all do a better job coaching, playing. We’ve got to make more plays. We have to make sure we’re putting them in a position to be successful.

“I saw an incomplete pass (on that final drive drop). I’ll have to look at the tape to see if there was something technique-wise we can correct and clean up.”

Big Blue now falls to 1-6, and while they’re certainly not out of the NFC East race by any stretch, given how poorly the entire division has played, losing a game in this fashion to a divisional rival definitely hurts.

“We definitely let one get away. Not a good feeling. We were up, we played a great fourth quarter, and at the end just didn’t finish,” said Engram. “It’s a division rival, obviously that streak is too long. We were close to getting one today. We’re not really worried about the past, but today was one that we had and just didn’t finish.

"It’s just a sucky feeling. It really sucks right now.”
