The Giants' final 53-man roster on Saturday wasn't so final after all.

Just 20 hours after making their cuts, the Giants cut six more players to make room for six they claimed off the NFL waiver wire. The six waiver claims were an extraordinary number -- the Cleveland Browns claimed five, and no other team claimed more than three.

Among the players they claimed were three cornerbacks, a kick returner, a starting center and a defensive end. And to make room they cut several veteran players. The shocker was the release of quarterback Davis Webb, whom the Giants had tried to trade on Saturday, according to an NFL source. But they also released guard John Jerry, according to a source, and cornerback William Gay announced that he had been cut on his Instagram account.

Jerry, a big part of the offensive line mess the last few years, was seemingly buried on the depth chart this summer and caught up in the Giants' desire to sweep most of the old line out the door. Gay was making the transition from cornerback to safety, but he was being passed on the depth chart by younger players in both starts.

The Giants also cut defensive tackle Josh Banks, tight end Jerell Adams, and receiver/returner Hunter Sharp.

Here is a look at the six players they claimed:

WR Kaelin Clay (Bills) -- A former sixth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2015). The 5-10, 200-pounder out of Utah didn't make it through the first season there and has been on now seven teams since. He has six career catches but he's likely here for his punt-returning skills, which doesn't bode well for their incumbent returner, Hunter Sharp.

DE Mario Edwards (Raiders) -- A former second-round pick (2015) who has battled injuries throughout his career. The 6-3, 280 pounder from Florida State had 3 ½ sacks last season.

C Spencer Pulley (Chargers) -- Undrafted out of Vanderbilt in 2016, the 6-4, 308-pounder started 16 games in Los Angeles last season. But he lost his job when the Chargers signed veteran Mike Pouncey in the offseason and drafted Scott Quessenberry in the sixth round. It's possible he could compete with Jon Halapio for the starting center job at some point.

CB Antonio Hamilton (Raiders) -- The 6-foot, 190-pounder missed half of last season with a knee injury. He has appeared in only 12 games and has no starts since he signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina State in 2016.

CB Michael Jordan (Browns) -- Originally an undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western State (2016) he spent his rookie year mostly on the Rams' practice squad, but was promoted late in the year and made two starts. Last year with the Browns the 6-ofot, 202-pounder appeared in 15 games, made one start. He has five pass defenses and no interceptions in 20 career games.

CB/S Kamrin Moore (Saints) -- The 5-11, 203-pound Moore was a sixth-round pick of the Saints out of Boston College back in April. A cornerback in college, the Saints tried to move him to safety during training camp, but that obviously didn't work well enough for them and he was cut.

The Giants hae also signed eight players to their practice squad -- all of whom were waived by the team on Saturday: DE/LBL Avery Moss, LB Calvin Munson, WR Alonzo Russell, WR Jawill Davis, TE Garrett Dickerson, RB Jhurell Pressley, CB Grant Haley, and OT Victor Salako,
