The speculation regarding the Giants and Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy continues to intensify.

SNY’s Connor Hughes reported on Friday that the buzz around the league is that McCarthy is the player the Giants want in the NFL Draft.

League sources polled by Hughes spoke highly of the Michigan product, with one high-ranking executive saying he will make a “better pro than college player.” Another GM told Hughes that McCarthy was viewed as “very coachable” and checks off all the boxes on size, athleticism, arm strength and accuracy.

The Giants hold the No. 6 pick in the draft and are believed to be interested in selecting a quarterback, even with Daniel Jones as the current starter.

Hughes previously reported that the Giants were high on Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye, although it seems unlikely either would be available when it is the Giants’ turn to select.

The Giants also just signed Drew Lock to back up Jones, and there was some belief that there would be an open competition for the starting job after comments made by Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider.

Lock, however, refuted that notion and said it was conveyed to him Jones is the starter.
