The Giants are finally re-signing C Jon Halapio, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed Wednesday.

It has been speculated for months that Halapio would sign once again with Big Blue after he tore his Achilles last year,  just before the regular season came to an end. He played in 15 games, starting all of them at center.

As Vacchiano points out, though, Halapio is getting into training camp a bit late, so Nick Gates should be considered the first center on the depth chart and likely the opening night starter Sept. 14 when the Giants play the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Spencer Pulley's roster spot could be in limbo with Halapio in now.

The Giants are also adding some wide receiver depth in Johnny Holton, a 29-year-old that spent time with the Steelers last season. He played in all 16 games, totaling three starts in that span. He had just three receptions for 21 yards.

But here's an interesting note about his career: The then-Oakland Raiders tried to make him a cornerback in 2018 after spending two seasons at wide receiver prior to that.

With the Giants, expect him to be more of a special teamer and someone that could potentially make up for the loss of Cody Core, who tore his Achilles earlier in preseason.

Both Halapio and Holton were brought in for workouts with the Giants on Sunday.

The corresponding roster moves for Halapio and Holton joining is the Giants waiving both T Jackson Dennis and DB Jaquarius Landrews, who was injured.
