The Giants let a 10-point fourth-quarter lead slip away as Caleb Williams marched the Bears on two touchdown drives for a 24-20 win in Chicago on Sunday.

Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart had racked up 308 yards of offense and two touchdown runs before he was forced out of the game at the start of the fourth with a concussion. Dart had little issue with the wind and light snow falling in blustery Chicago, but a couple of hits in the pocket and hitting his head on the turf when he fumbled late in the third ended his day. Russell Wilson led a field goal drive in relief when Brian Daboll elected for a 20-10 lead on a 19-yard attempt, setting up the collapse as the New York defense no longer could keep Chicago's second-year QB out of rhythm.

The Bears struck first with an eight-yard touchdown run by Kyle Monangai, capping an eight-play, 47-yard drive set up on a short field after the Giants' first possession on offense resulted in a turnover on downs.

But Big Blue responded when Darius Slayton hauled in passes on back-to-back plays, totalling 69 yards, before Dart put the icing on the cake of the Giants’ third possession with a three-yard touchdown run on third down.

After getting just seven yards on the first nine carries from running backs, Tyrone Tracy took off for 16 yards to set up the Giants at the Bears’ 24 on the opening drive of the second half. Dart did the rest with a zone-read going untouched off the left side of the line for his second running score of the game and seventh on the season to put New York up 17-7.

After a punt on Wilson's second drive, Williams began to heat up with a 20-yard completion to tight end Colston Loveland on third down, an 18-yard pass to wide receiver Rome Odunze, a 29-yard Williams scramble, and a two-yard TD pass to Odunze to make it a three-point game. The story of the game: New York’s pass rush got close but couldn’t get the sack and the secondary got burned with the QB extending the play by avoiding the pressure.

Williams needed just four plays to cover 53 yards, running the last 17 on a bootleg that took the Giants defense completely by surprise for the game-winning score with 1:47 to play.

In relief, Wilson managed 45 yards (41 on one catch and run) on 3-for-7 passing. He was sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards and ran twice for 12 yards. On his final drive, he had four incompletions, a reception for no gain, and had one 11-yard run.

The loss means New York is still winless on the road this season, and has not won away from home since Week 5 of the 2024 season (29-20 over Seattle), extending a streak to 11 games. This was also the fourth time the Giants have blown a double-digit lead on the year as they fell to 2-8.

Here are the key takeaways...

- Dart hit tight end Theo Johnson on a nice out route for a gain of 13 on the Giants' second play from scrimmage. After finding Johnson a few plays later to set up a 4th-and-2 from midfield, Dart appeared to have Wan'Dale Robinson open right away, but succumbed to the pressure and was sacked. The Giants’ second drive was derailed on second down when Jermaine Eluemunor and the right side of the line miscommunicated and left a corner blitz free for a loss of eight on a sack.

With Big Blue’s offense sputtering, Slayton hauled in a highlight-reel catch down the sideline for a 31-yard catch on the final play of the opening quarter. On the very next play, Dart found Slayton wide open deep in the Bears’ secondary off play-action for a gain of 38. Three plays later, Dart went in virtually untouched on a designed run. The rookie passer began the game 6-for-7 for 104 yards and the score on the ground.

- On the next drive, starting at their own 10, Dart picked up where he left off, throwing a perfect pass over the middle above a leaping linebacker for a 16-yard gain to Salyton for a third-down conversion. He found Robinson for 11 yards on the sideline the next play and two plays later hit Robinson for 13 more on a play-action bootleg.

Dart got roughed up on a sack, with his helmet getting dislodged and knocked off, but roughing the passer was called to give New York a first down at the Bears’ 30. After a pair of unsuccessful plays, Dart took off for a big gain on a designed keeper, but an illegal block well down the field made it 3rd-and-3. The penalty was big as a short run by Devin Singletary and an incomplete pass turned the ball over. It looked like Dart found Daniel Bellinger in the end zone between two defenders, but the tight end had the ball ripped from his hands.

- With 68 seconds to play in the half, Dart found Johnson for 21 yards to convert on third down with a nice throw on the run. He hit the tight end for 25 more on the next play to get New York inside 15 yards. Dart nearly threw a bad interception, but Gunnar Olszewski punched the ball out of the defender's hand, setting up a field goal to give the Giants a halftime lead.

- After opening the second half with a 56-yard touchdown drive (set up by a 39-yard kickoff return by Deonte Banks), Dart had the Giants moving after the defense forced a Chicago punt. But the quarterback had the ball popped from his hands by a C.J. Gardner-Johnson hit on a designed run, and the Bears had the game's first turnover, taking over at their own 22.

Following the fumble, the Bears' offense found a rhythm through the air and the ground with four plays gaining 50 yards (plus five more on a penalty), setting them up outside the red zone before a pass interference put the ball on the 10. Banks made up for his two penalties, doing well to cover Odunze on a 3rd-and-goal fade route from the five to force a field goal.

New York’s secondary had trouble getting a handle on Odunze early, as he had 66 yards on four receptions in the first half. They got some luck on a few drops from the Bears and an overthrow by Williams when Odunze got beyond the secondary in the end zone.

- On the Giants’ third drive of the second half, their first after the fumble, Dart was in for the first two plays before the third quarter ended. At the start of the fourth, Wilson was under center and Dart was in the blue medical tent. The injury seemed to occur when he landed on the fumble, raising the question, why was he able to stay in the game after his head hit the turf hard for the next two plays on the next drive?

Dart finished with 242 yards on 19-for-29 passing (8.3 yards) for a 91.5 rating with 66 yards on six carries and two scores.

Wilson did well on the drive, with a big play by Singletary hauling in a short pass, breaking a tackle and tiptoing 41 yards down the sideline. After Tray ran for 24 yards on back-to-back carries, the drive stalled inside the Bears' two. However, even eschewing the chance for a 4th-and-goal from isndie the one after a defensive penalty, Daboll elected for the 19-yard field goal to stand and a 20-10 lead.

- Penalties in bad spots: Cor'Dale Flott with a holding taking away a sack on third down in the first quarter, which kept alive a drive that ended with the Bears’ first touchdown. The Giants' offense would have been set up inside the Bears' 10 if not for Bellinger's unnecessary block in the back after the QB was well past the first down marker on the 3rd-and-11 scamper. The drive ended with no points.

Abdul Carter had his first solo sack whipped away by an illegal contact from Banks in the third quarter, turning a 2nd-and-long into a first down in blank. Banks was then dinged for a pass interference that netted the home side 19 yards.

- Brian Burns made his presence felt early, getting in a passing lane and nearly leading to an interception as Flott nearly managed to come up with a ball on a ricochet. And outside of two runs for 20 yards from the Bears' backs, New York's line was winning at the point of attack, holding them to 32 yards from the first eight carries.

But New York failed to translate 12 pressures into any sacks and that cost them in the end.

- D'Andre Swift opened Chicago's fifth drive with a 25-yard scamper off the left side. The Giants tightened, forcing a 4th-and-2 from midfield just before the two-minute warning, and they had Swift stuffed with Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles meeting him with a lowered shoulder, but Flott came in and hit his teammate instead of the running back, who went on to gain nine. When given a second chance for a stop, Swift dropped a pass on 4th-and-4 to halt Chicago.

- The Giants struggled to create any push early as their first six rush attempts by running backs resulted in negative two yards. Despite that lack of push, New York was finding success in the play action.

- The kicking game figured to play a role in the blustery weather of the Windy City, and punter Jamie Gillan deposited the game’s opening kickoff out of bounds to set up the Bears with great field position. But a fourth-down stop limited the damage. Another kickoff attempt landed short of the landing zone, but Chicago took a knee to end the first half rather than attempt anything from its own 40 with three seconds left.

With New York looking for a big punt with three minutes to play and a 20-17 lead, Gillian had one go off the side of his foot, setting up Chicago at its own 47 after a 26-yard boot, leading to the game-winning score.

Younghoe Koo, getting the start with Graham Gano inactive, converted all of his kicks, a pair of PATs, a 32-yarder, and a 19-yarder. Koo took over the kickoff duties starting with the Giants’ first kickoff of the second half.

Game MVP: Caleb Williams

Chicago's QB finished with 220 yards on 20-for-36 passing with a touchdown and did so well avoiding pressure all game. Williams added 63 yards on eight carries, including the game-winning score.
