Prior to Friday's game against the Atlanta Braves, the Mets called up highly-touted pitching prospect Franklyn Kilome.
Kilome stands at 6'6" and weighs in at 175 pounds. A tall, slim body, the Mets acquired him in July of 2018 when they shipped Asdrubal Cabrera to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Dominican Republic native missed the 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but he currently ranks as the 12th-best prospect in the organization, falling from the 10th spot in 2019.
He tossed a career-high 140.2 innings in 2018, and can provide the Mets' with either a spot start if necessary, or some long innings in relief. He also owned a 9.9 K/9, a 1.08 WHIP, and a 4.20 K/BB ratio with Binghamton.
Kilome has not thrown a pitch beyond Double-A ball, where he owns a 4.08 ERA (77 earned runs/169.2 innings) with both Binghamton and Reading. However, he has a consistent mid-90s fastball and a flashy breaking ball. A true starter, just three of Kilome's 95 appearances are in relief, all of which came from his first year in the minors in 2014.
Either way, Kilome's live arm can give the Mets some depth in whatever situation, and the 25-year old should be able to eat up some valuable innings soon.
