Gary Sanchez thinks Yankees should trade Miguel Andujar: 'He deserves to play in the big leagues'

Andujar requested a trade from New York yet again

Gary Sanchez will be seeing a lot of former Yankees teammates for the first time in his new Minnesota Twins threads. But he won't be seeing Miguel Andujar, who was just optioned down to Triple-A despite having a solid run with the Yanks in 12 games (.268, two doubles, three RBI).

Because of his success in the bigs, Andujar has requested a trade from the Yankees following his option. And Sanchez doesn't blame him.

"If I was in his shoes, I'd probably be thinking about the same thing, asking for a trade, for a different scenario," Sanchez told The Star Tribune's Megan Ryan

"My opinion, it's time for them or any other team to give him an opportunity. He deserves to play in the big leagues."

The reason Andujar was sent down was due to Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson coming back in the fold. However, the struggles of Aaron Hicks and Joey Gallo this season made the demotion interesting considering Andujar showed he could produce.

A key example was their late-game comeback against the Los Angeles Angels where Andujar laced a double that started an eighth-inning rally that eventually saw Anthony Rizzo plate two with the bases loaded and two outs to set up a 2-1 victory.

Sanchez obviously knows what Andujar can do with the bat, but he also believes he's taken a step forward with his defensive prowess in the outfield after shifting from third base.

"He’s done a good job, offensively, but also defensively. He’s come a long way defensively, and he’s shown that he’s capable of staying in the big leagues."
