Mark Pavelich, a member of the Rangers from 1981-86 and part of the Miracle on Ice 1980 US Olympic team, died on Thursday at the age of 63.

According to the Star Tribune, Pavelich was found dead at a Minnesota residential treatment center, where he had been receiving mental health treatment for the past several months.

The Rangers released the following statement on Pavelich’s death:

The former Rangers star dealt with mental health issues over the last few years, with his family telling the Star Tribune that they believed he suffered from CTE. Pavelich was under civil commitment at the treatment center at the time of his death, stemming for a violent assault incident with a neighbor in August 2019.

Pavelich played in 341 games with the Rangers, scoring 133 goals to go along with 185 assists.
