Buck Showalter could be making a move to the West Coast.
According to a report from MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the former Mets skipper is a candidate for the Los Angeles Angels’ vacant managerial opening.
Morosi notes that Showalter and Angles GM Perry Minasian have a “longstanding connection” from their time together with the Texas Rangers. Showalter managed the Rangers from 2003-06. Minasian became a scout with the Rangers in 2003 and eventually served as an assistant to Showalter.
This isn’t the first time that Showalter has been linked to the Angels. Earlier this month, Mike Puma of the New York Post reported that Showalter was interested in the Angels job, which seemed like a good fit for the 67-year-old given that that Angels reportedly want a veteran manager following Phil Nevin’s tenure.
The Mets parted ways with Showalter at the end of the regular season. In two seasons with the club, Showalter owned a 176-148 record, including a 101-win season in 2022, his winningest season ever as a manager.
