The Mets announced on Oct. 17 that the team would not be renewing the contract of Edgardo Alfonzo, who managed the Short-Season A-ball Brooklyn Cyclones to the New York Penn League Championship in 2019.

Alfonzo had been the manager of the Cyclones since 2017, and is expected to remain with the team as a club ambassador, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

Alfonzo recently posted on his personal Instagram account, reacting to the changes.

"I had a great career as a player for the NY Mets and I enjoyed my 7 years in player development with the Mets as an instructor, coach and for the past 3 years as Mgr. of the Brooklyn Cyclones -- culminating in a Championship this year," Alfonzo said.

In the caption, Alfonzo mentioned what his future may hold.

"The many changes in mgrs./coaches in the Mets system reflect that the new regime simply wants their own people in the system so I am not taking this personally," Alfonzo said. "I met with Jeff Wilpon, and they would like to retain me as an Ambassador, which I may do, but my preference is to remain in uniform on the field."

Prior to becoming the Cyclones manager in 2017, he was their bench coach from 2014 to 2016. He played for the Mets from 1995 to 2002, where he won a Silver Slugger in 1999 and was an All-Star in 2000.
