The Devils made a flurry of moves ahead of the 2025 NHL trade deadline.

Here is how Friday went down for New Jersey – which included signing defenseman Jonathan Kovacevic to a five-year extension.

Forwards Cody Glass and Jonathan Gruden

In the final minutes before the deadline, the Devils added the two forwards in a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced.

Glass has tallied 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) and is a minus-9 while averaging 13:25 minutes on the ice over 51 games in his first season with Pittsburgh after arriving in an offseason trade from Nashville. He has won 52.7 percent of his faceoffs, a new career high.

The soon-to-be 26-year-old (April 1), played three seasons with the Predators after skating for the first two seasons of his career with the Vegas Golden Knights, who made him the No. 6 overall selection (the franchise's first-ever pick) in the 2017 NHL Draft.

In 238 career games, Glass has 86 points (33 goals, 53 assists) and is a minus-10 while averaging 13:53 time on the ice. Glass has three games of Stanley Cup Playoffs experience and is a minus-1 with an average of 10:53 time on the ice.

Gruden, 24, has 16 games of NHL experience with Pittsburgh since he was the 95th overall pick (4th Round) in 2018. He has tallied one goal and is a minus-2 in 128:44 of total ice time. He has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in 42 games for the Pens' AHL affiliate and will report to the Devils' AHL affiliate in Utica.

The Devils sent Chase Stillman, unsigned draft choice Max Graham, and their 2027 third-round draft pick to the Penguins to complete the deal.

Defenseman Dennis Cholowski

While the 3 p.m. deadline had come and gone, Fitzgerald and assistant GM Don MacKinnon announced the acquisition of the blueliner from the Islanders.

Cholowski, 27, had split time between the NHL side and their AHL affiliate but will report to the Devils. He has appeared in 33 games with the Isles this season, tallying 10 points (three goals, seven assists) for a plus-1 while averaging 12:48 time on the ice. He has added 30 blocks and five hits.

The 20th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by Detroit, Cholowski has 150 games of NHL experience with the Red Wings, Capitals, Kraken, and Isles. He has scored 13 goals and dished out 27 assists but carries an unsightly mins-50 for his career (mostly from his first two seasons in the year when he was a minus-46 over his first 88 games).

New Jersey sent Adam Beckman to the Isles to complete the deal. The 23-year-old left wing did not appear for the Devils after arriving in an offseason deal with Minnesota. He is likely headed to the Islanders' AHL affiliate.

Right wing Daniel Sprong

The penultimate move of the busy day for the Devils was the addition of Sprong in a deal with the Kraken that sent New Jersey's 2026 seventh-round pick to Seattle.

The soon-to-be 28-year-old (March 17) had appeared in just 10 games with the Kraken after arriving in a midseason trade with Vancouver. In all, Sprong has appeared in 19 games this year with the two Western Conference teams with two goals and three assists and is a minus-1 while averaging 12:02 time on the ice.

A second-round pick in 2015, he made his NHL debut as an 18-year-old in 2015 with Pittsrugh He has bounced around quite a bit since then appearing for Anaheim, Washington, Seattle, and Detroit all before joining his third team of this season on Friday.

The Netherlands native has appeared in 363 career games across his nine NHL seasons tallying 164 points (87 goals, 77 assists) and is a minus-3 while averaging 11:57 time on the ice. Sprong had his best season during the 2022-23 campaign with the Kraken when he tallied 46 points (21 goals, 25 assists) and was a plus-13 while plaing just 11:25 each game.

Center Marc McLaughlin

In a final more minor move, New Jersey announced the acqusition of the 25-year-old forward in a deal with the Boston Bruins that saw Daniil Misyul head in the other direction.

McLaughlin has played 12 games with the Bruins on the year and chipped in two goals and was a minus-1 in 110:21 total time on the ice. He has appeared in 26 NHL gaemes over the past four seasons with Boston, tallying six goals (minus-2) and averaging 9:56 of ice time.

He will report to Utica and during 34 games with the Bruins AHL affiliate this year had 14 points (five goals, six assists).

Misyul, a third-round draft pick by the Devils in 2019, had made one NHL appearence during his time with the organization and was a minus-1 in 12:23 of ice time.
