Craig Carton announced on Thursday’s episode of Carton & Roberts that he will be leaving WFAN, with his last day coming on June 30th.
Andrew Marchand of the New York Post first reported Thursday that Carton was expected to leave the network in a little over two weeks, after a nearly three-year run.
Alongside his WFAN duties as a co-host of Carton & Roberts — which has a daily weekday simulcast from 4 - 6 p.m. on SNY — Carton has also been hosting The Carton Show on FS1, and he will now focus solely on that morning show.
“Today is a happy day and a very sad day for me, and it’s one of the most difficult days I’ll ever do in radio, because I am leaving WFAN,” Carton said.
“I love Evan Roberts. It has nothing to do with Evan Roberts. It has nothing to do with anybody here. It has everything to do with me and my personal life, and the opportunity that I have with Fox Sports to do a show on Fox Sports 1.”
As far as replacing Carton, The Post reports that Roberts is likely to take Carton’s place as “the driver” of the show.
Former Giants running back Tiki Barber is the “leading candidate” to replace Carton from an internal standpoint, per the report, while Jerry Ferrara is “someone WFAN will consider" externally for the role. New York sports radio icon Mike Francesa is not a candidate to join the show, according to the Post.
