I know what some of you might be thinking when you read the headline: This might be a lost cause for the Yankees this season.

But Aaron Hicks is starting to get on base again, and it only bodes well for the Bombers if he continues to do that.

The veteran outfielder's performance, along with Joey Gallo, has been a hot topic for Yankees fans this season due to their well-documented struggles. But for Hicks at least, those struggles are slowly getting corrected.

Over his last seven games, HIcks is 9-for-22 (.409) with three multi-hit games, including two in this Minnesota Twins series. He's also scored a run in each of those games, which is what the Yanks always envisioned for Hicks -- get on base with solid at-bats and get around to home plate.

And over his last 15 games, Hicks is hitting .286 with a .386 on-base percentage. This has all resulted in him getting his average up to .232 with a .357 OBP on the year. Respectable numbers, especially considering how rough it was at the onset.

But there's still an issue here with Hicks that I'm sure he has in the back of his mind: He just can't get an extra-base hit to save his life right now.

The Yanks have known Hicks as someone who can get the ball over the fence and into gaps since he came to the team in 2016. His career slugging percentage is only .391, but from 2017-2020 he slugged .414 or higher before posting a .333 mark in 2021 over 126 games.

But what we're seeing now is atrocious, as he's got just a .261 slugging percentage. His expected slugging of .300 is a bottom three percent mark in the entire league.

It's not good but it's exactly what happens when your last extra-base hit was on May 13 (double vs. Chicago White Sox). HIs only homer of the year came on April 12 against the Toronto Blue Jays and ... that's it. Two extra-base hits on the season.
