It's no secret that the Giants will be in the market for a new quarterback this upcoming offseason, and the time to reboot the once-proud franchise may come in late April when the 2025 NFL Draft arrives.

With the best chance to land the top-overall pick -- projections heavily favor them now -- the Giants are in a prime position to draft the future face of the franchise. And one of the top prospects they'll consider is Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who's already made an initial sales pitch to them. The message? He'd welcome the opportunity to wear blue and play in The Big Apple.

"I just know if they get a chance to get me, they’re going to get everything I have," the Heisman Trophy finalist told reporters on Friday. "They'd be getting that dude. They'd be getting somebody who's someone who doesn’t care about anything -- just how he moves, how he operates on and off the field, is confident, somebody who's going to challenge himself more than he challenges the team. At the end of the day, wins mean everything. You’re getting a winner.”

Ward, who currently ranks 14th on Pro Football Focus' draft big board, has produced a laudable college campaign for Miami. The fifth-year senior has thrown for 4,123 yards with 36 touchdowns and just seven interceptions across 12 games, and with a career-high 67.4 completion percentage, he was named the school's first Heisman finalist since 2001. His passer rating (171.1) also ranks fifth-best in the nation.

The path to becoming a first-round draft pick wasn't paved for Ward. The 22-year-old was once an unranked Texas high school prospect, and he spent his first two college seasons (2020-21) playing for Incarnate Word, in the lesser-known Southland Conference. Before joining Miami this season, he spent two years across the country at Washington State.

Whether or not Ward receives Heisman honors, he's open to playing under center for the Giants and also excited about the possibility of connecting with prized rookie receiver Malik Nabers.

“It’d be good,” Ward said. “A player like that wins 50-50 balls, wins against man covers. He knows the soft spots in zones. He’s only going to make me better if I get a chance to play with him. He’s a No. 1 receiver for a reason.”

While the Giants and other teams will spend the next couple of months further scouting Ward and evaluating his intangibles, he's certainly earned hot commodity status. The 6-foot-2, 223-pounder was recently named the ACC's Player of the Year, and his 155 career touchdowns rank tied for the most at the NCAA Division I level.

A beyond-disgruntled Giants fanbase is counting down the days until the NFL Draft, as the team currently owns an NFC-worst 2-11 record and scores an NFL-worst 14.9 points on average. They're also one of seven teams already eliminated from playoff contention, and guaranteed a 10th losing season since 2012.
