With the future of Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen murky -- with Sandy Alderson poised to take over the team president role if Steve Cohen is approved as owner -- a key Oakland Athletics executive is being linked to the GM job in Queens.
Billy Owens, who has worked for the A's for the last 19 years, is "getting some buzz" as a candidate for Mets GM if the team replaces Van Wagenen, reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
The connection to Owens makes sense, with Alderson currently serving as a senior advisor for the A's and having a long history in the organization.

Owens, who is the assistant general manager/director of player personnel for the A's, spent 12 seasons as the director of player personnel before getting promoted to his current role. He has also worked as a scout and minor league hitting coach for the A's.
Prior to joining Oakland's front office, Owens was a player. He was selected in the third round of the 1992 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles and played seven minor league seasons.
