As most people that watch baseball have suspected, the Yankees' success will come down to the play of their bullpen. Luckily for them, they've got one of the best in the league.

Luis Severino started for the Yankees and gave them a solid, scoreless four innings before Aaron Boone decided it was time to unload his relievers on the Twins.

From the fifth inning till the final pitch of the game, Boone put out five pitchers: Tommy Kahnle, Adam Ottavino, Chad Green, Zack Britton and Aroldis Chapman.

Kahnle, Ottavino and Green all saw action in the bottom of the fifth, with Kahnle allowing a hit then retiring two, then Ottavino walking Nelson Cruz and Green finishing the inning off with an Eddie Rosario groundout to second.

Green continued pitching for the Yankees until allowing a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, bringing in Britton to pitch.

Britton retired the next three batters, but in a scary sight for New York, was seen hobbling off the mound as he headed to the dugout at the end of the inning. He seemed to tweak his ankle after covering first base on a groundout from Cruz.

"Britt made a great defensive play too, getting over there to get a big out there covering the bag," Boone said after the game. "I think he jammed his ankle a little bit, so he came in and kind of got stretched out and felt good enough to go back out.

"We're obviously going to, at that point, try and split it up as best as we could between him and (Chapman). He was a little tender, a little gingerly in finishing his pitches, so we just felt like we needed to get him out of there."

Britton said after the game that he would be fine for the ALCS and that no tests would be needed.

Chapman entered to relieve Britton with one out in the bottom of the eighth and ended up capturing the five-out save to make the Yankees the first team to reach the Championship Series in the postseason so far. Chapman put two runners on base to start the ninth inning, but finished off the next three batters to cut the Twins' season short.

"(Chapman) was up a ready to go," Boone said. "It was probably a little earlier than we wanted, but obviously he was able to finish it off."
