Bradley McDougald hasn’t even been a Jet for a week and he’s already trying to recruit players to Gang Green.

Much like the man he’s replacing, McDougald is pulling a Jamal Adams in trying to get a high-profile player to the Jets in Jadeveon Clowney. Both were part of the Seattle Seahawks’ defense last season, and McDougald decided to use that connection as his latest Twitter post showed.

“Spoke to my boy @clownejd today, told me to tell the @nyjets to come get him!! Let’s make it happen,” McDougald wrote as he posted a picture of him and Clowney FaceTiming.

Though the Jets “never had serious interest” in Clowney on the free agent market, they do have excess cap space that can still be spent ahead of training camp. According to OverTheCap.com, New York has about $21 million to work with.

The Jets’ pass rush could use some bolstering and Clowney would definitely be a big addition if it were to happen. However, it’s unknown what his asking price is at the moment. Clowney initially wanted more than $20 million per season, and then it dipped to around the $17-18 million range.

Maybe the Jets are waiting it out, but they could be doing the same with veteran CB Logan Ryan, who they also didn’t see eye-to-eye with when it came to contract value. And, of course, Douglas could just be saving his money for in-season moves or next offseason.

There are loads of possibilities, but McDougald knows what Clowney brings to the table. It wasn’t a normal season for him last year in Seattle, but that’s because he was battling injury. He had three sacks over 13 games, but in 2018 with the Texans, he had nine sacks in 15 games. He underwent offseason surgery to repair his core muscle injury and should be good to go in 2020.

He’s still the biggest ticket free agent on the market, and the season is coming close. So, even though he’s the new kid on the block, McDougald is already making his presence known by nudging the Jets in the direction of his former teammate.
