Former Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin reportedly has a new home.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Angels plan to hire Nevin as their third base coach.

Nevin, a one-time All-Star as a player, spent the last four seasons as Aaron Boone’s third base coach in the Bronx. After the 2021 season came to a close, the Yankees elected not to renew Nevin’s contract, along with hitting coach Marcus Thames and assistant hitting coach P.J. Pilittere. First base coach Reggie Willits also left the club to coach at the University of Oklahoma.

Nevin’s time with the Yankees may ultimately be remembered most for his ill-fated decision to send Aaron Judge home from first base on a Giancarlo Stanton line drive off the Green Monster in the AL Wild Card Game against the Red Sox. The Yankees were trailing 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning at the time, and Judge was cut down at the plate easily following the risky send.

To replace Nevin, the Yankees hired former Mets manager Luis Rojas to coach third base, keeping Rojas in New York after two seasons as the Mets manager.
