Alexandar Georgiev will be in net for the Rangers when they face off against the Penguins at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, head coach David Quinn said following the team’s morning skate.

He also said he expects to switch off between Georgiev and Igor Shesterkin between the pipes, at least for the time being.

“Our goaltending, we've got two really good ones,” Quinn said. “Obviously the circumstances have changed since last year without having [Henrik Lundqvist] here. I just thought for the short-term we're going to go every other game with these guys for a while and see how it regardless of how they play. I don't know how long we're going to do it but that's going to be the approach in the short-term.”

When the Rangers bought out the final year of Lundqvist’s contract, it was a sure sign that they had faith in both Georgiev and Shesterkin to shoulder the load. Georgiev will be making his fourth start of the season on Saturday and has an .896 save percentage with seven goals allowed in his first three contests this season. He was pulled in favor of Shesterkin against the Devils on Jan. 19 after allowing four goals on 20 shots through the first two periods.

Shesterkin, meanwhile, has an .894 save percentage and has allowed 12 goals in his five games (four starts). He made 23 saves in the Rangers’ overtime win over the Sabres on Thursday.

Despite the current timeshare between netminders, Quinn knows his team will be at his best when they can find a hot goaltender to take them to the next level, they’re just looking for one of them to emerge.

“It's always nice to have one you can ride, for sure, that's the end game,” Quinn said. “These are different circumstances for both these guys. I think in the short-term, it gives us a chance to solidify the goaltending situation going every other day.”
