The Jets have been dropping like flies at training camp this year.

Jamison Crowder left practice with tightness in his lower leg, although he said it was just "precaution," and he'll "be good."

But with rookies La'Mical Perine and Denzel Mims, as well as Breshad Perriman and others still out with injuries, head coach Adam Gase has had to make a lot of adjustments in practice, with the season opener less than two weeks away.

"We just gotta figure out a way to kind of maneuver around practice schedule wise and get everything we can out of these days, whether it's a shorter practice or a different kind situations, or more individual or more walkthrough, whatever we gotta do to try to kind of get us ready and then just keep trying to get guys healthy, get guys back out there and get ready at the end of next week," Gase said. "I do think this is - we're not the only ones. I think there's a lot of teams in the league right now that are dealing with all kinds of injuries. I don't think it's being publicized as much....We're not the only team."

Gase could only maneuver so much, however. The only running backs available to him at camp were Le'Veon Bell and Frank Gore.

"Those two guys, their attitude was 'great, more reps for us.' And I'm going like 'no, that's not great, because we're 28 and 37, we gotta be smart here,'" said Gase. "I love the fact that those guys were willing to go out there and carry the load...but wideout, same thing, safety, same thing where you get low in numbers, now you're trying to manage it. You're moving guys -- you're moving corners to safety to try to make it through practice."

Gase mentioned that the amount of injuries could be attributed to players' lack of gym access due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Every guy has such different experience from this offseason. How many guys had access to gyms? How many guys had their own home gym to where they could work out?" he said. "Some guys probably didn't have access to anything, which is probably why you see quite a few injuries."

Gase added that he feels players have a competitive edge in group workouts during a normal season, rather than working out on their own.

"It's still never the same when you're with a group like we usually are in the offseason, because there's a little bit of competitive juices flowing. Even when they're lifting and running, there's something about that. You're getting more out of those sessions, I feel like, then what you do if you're just by yourself."

Regarding Bell, it might be a good thing he got extra reps in Tuesday's practice. Gase said he wanted to expand Bell's usage and find ways to "help him create more explosive plays."

"I don't think we ever gave him enough space to work. Because that's his game. If he gets space to work, he's gonna make a guy miss, or if a DB is trying to tackle him, he's hard to bring down...So if we can keep finding different ways to mix it up...I think we just gotta...find as many different ways to get him the ball in space as possible," he said.

The Jets kick off their season against the Bills in Buffalo on Sept. 13.
