With the Philadelphia Phillies announcing Thursday that a coach and clubhouse attendant tested positive for the coronavirus, the Yankees’ schedule could once again be changing.

The Miami Marlins’ outbreak is the reason the Yankees are playing the Baltimore Orioles and not the Phillies in the first place. New York was expected to make up those games with Philly early next week, but now the Toronto Blue Jays and Phillies won’t be playing their games this weekend following this most recent news.

So, it’s all up in the air at the moment, and manager Aaron Boone is just as in the dark as the rest of us.

“I’ve just heard maybe a guy or two or whatever,” he told reporters before the Yankees’ final game against the Orioles on Thursday night. “I hear probably the same kind of rumors or situation that everyone hears, but I don’t really know anything as far as does that impact us next week. I guess in some way it could, but I have no directive from anywhere right now and I’m sure the league probably doesn’t know how next week will unfold.”

Boone and GM Brian Cashman have commended the Yankees for their willingness to do whatever it takes to play games and be ready for anything to happen. Their preparedness was displayed on Wednesday when they handled the O’s with no issue despite the days off.

But another flux in the schedule would mean the pitching staff would likely be switched around again, and the position players would go without their regularly schedule at-bats. That’s the price to pay in this type of season, though.

It’s bigger than just the Yankees at this point, with MLB needing to reschedule multiple teams to maintain the integrity of the season. But even though they have been following necessary protocols, the Yankees have still been affected and it might happen once again.

Taking it day by day, the Yankees will first focus on defeating the Orioles on Thursday and facing the Boston Red Sox this weekend – a home game finally – before thinking about next week.
