Five takeaways from Saturday's game

1. After allowing a solo home run to Rhys Hoskins in the first inning, Seth Lugo settled down nicely, as that was the only run he would allow in his five innings of work. Lugo’s eight strikeouts tied a career-high, and his 81 pitches were his most in a game since throwing 81 on September 25, 2017 against the Atlanta Braves. Lugo allowed just four hits and two walks.

2. The Mets got on the board in the third inning, with Andres Gimenez singling in Jeff McNeil after he hit a ground rule double to lead off the inning. After Gimenez advanced to third on two consecutive groundouts, Michael Conforto drove him in to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.

3. Todd Frazier scored on a sacrifice fly by Gimenez in shallow right that was caught by second baseman Neil Walker running toward the outfield, rather than right fielder Bryce Harper who was coming in. Heads up base running by Frazier, and a mistake by Harper, gave the Mets a 3-1 lead. Harper was soon ejected for arguing a fair/foul call.

4. Robinson Chirinos extended the Mets’ lead to 5-1 with an RBI double, good for his first extra-base hit and RBI as a Met.

5. Jeurys Familia, Justin Wilson, Miguel Castro, and Edwin Diaz combined for four shutout innings of relief to preserve the victory. Diaz struck out all three batters he faced, improving his K/9 since August 4 to an astounding 20.4 (31 strikeouts/13.2 innings).
