The Giants added an experienced former head coach to Joe Judge's staff on Friday, hiring Jason Garrett as the team's offensive coordinator.

Giants fans likely know all about Garrett's tenure as Cowboys head coach, as he went 85-67 over 10 seasons with Dallas.

But here are some things you may not know about the Giants' new OC ...

- Garrett, 53, was born in Abington, PA. He spent time growing up in Ohio and New Jersey, before playing quarterback at Princeton University, where he majored in history. In 1988, Garrett was named the Ivy League Player of the Year.

- His path to get to the NFL was an interesting one, which began as an undrafted free agent signing of the New Orleans Saints. After a brief stint on the Saints, he ended up back at Princeton as an assistant coach in 1990. He then got back into playing, suiting up for the San Antonio Riders of the World League and the Ottawa Rough Riders of the CFL in 1991. In 1993, he returned to the NFL as a member of the Cowboy's practice squad.

- Garrett was a backup quarterback with the Cowboys from 1993-99, behind Troy Aikman on the depth chart. He appeared in 23 games with Dallas, with his Thanksgiving Day effort in 1994 (311 yards in a Cowboys' win over the Packers) being his most memorable performance as a player. He has two Super Bowl rings as a player.

- After his stint with the Cowboys, Garrett joined the Giants as a backup to Kerry Collins from 2000-03, though he only appeared in two games with the team. He would then have brief stops at Tampa Bay and Miami before calling it a career in 2004.

- Garrett's NFL coaching career began in 2005 when he was the Dolphins quarterbacks coach under Nick Saban. He held that position for two seasons before the Cowboys hired him away as their offensive coordinator in 2007. In 2010, Garrett took over as Dallas' interim head coach after Wade Phillips was fired. In 2011, the interim tag was removed.

- The Cowboys won three NFC East titles under Garrett, and while his playoff record is just 2-3, he oversaw some very successful offenses in Dallas and was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2016. In 2014, the Cowboys were second in the league in rushing yards with 2,354. As a team, the Cowboys gained 6,138 yards of total offense - second in franchise history. The club also had eight players selected to the Pro Bowl that season. In 2016, Ezekiel Elliott became the fifth rookie since the NFL merger to win the NFL's rushing title with 1,631 yards - third-most by a rookie in NFL history.

- His father, Jim Garrett, was an assistant coach with the Giants from 1970-73.
