The Rangers enjoyed themselves a strong offseason.

Coming off a year that saw them fall back out of the playoffs and to a lottery pick, Chris Drury was extremely active looking to improve the retooling club.

Whether or not it’ll be enough remains to be seen.

Here are three of the biggest storylines to keep an eye on as the Blueshirts look to make their way back into the postseason…

Pavel Dorofeyev’s arrival

Arguably the biggest addition Drury made in an effort to improve the club was bringing in Dorofeyev in a Draft day deal with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Dorofeyev immediately brings a much-needed scoring threat to the Big Apple.

The 25-year-old keeps getting better with each passing season, topping the 30-goal mark in each of the past two, and setting a new career-high again last year.

He also added 10 more assists to his total, putting up his best mark in points by a dozen.

It remains to be seen exactly who Dorofeyev will be skating with for the Blueshirts, but he should be the consistent top-line scorer this team desperately needed.

New York averaged just 2.8 goals per game last year, which was 23rd in the league.

Improved defensive core

Drury also worked extremely hard to improve the club in another key area.

He completely revamped the d-core after another season in which they struggled at times skating in front of star goaltender Igor Shesterkin.

Mike Sullivan’s top pairing will remain the same with Adam Fox and Vladislav Gavrikov back together for a second straight season.

The second unit should receive a nice boost, though, after bringing in puck-mover Sean Durzi and veteran Marcus Pettersson in two separate trades.

Durzi figures to QB the second power-play unit as well, and Pettersson comes with plenty of familiarity with Sullivan’s system from their time together in Pittsburgh.

The third pairing is a bit more open.

Braden Schneider is back for another year, and he figures to skate with Matthew Robertson, who is coming off an impressive first real shot in the NHL.

New York also has returning RFA’s Scott Morrow and Vincent Iorio competing for a spot, and fifth overall pick Albert Smits could work his way into the conversation, as well.

From top-to-bottom, this group is shaping up to be much improved from last season.

Can Laf build off his strong finish?

Alexis Lafreniere’s career still hasn’t developed how he or the Rangers would’ve hoped.

The former No. 1 overall pick has shown flashes of his potential, but he continues to be an extremely streaky performer over his first six pro seasons.

The latest of those positive stretches came down the stretch last year.

Skating on a line with Mika Zibanejad and Gabe Perreault, Lafreniere was able to produce 11 goals and 13 assists over the final two months.

While it’s still not nearly where the Rangers hope for him to be, that’s just about 40 percent of his point total for the entire season.

It remains to be seen exactly how Sullivan decides to match his forwards up, but that trio showed great chemistry and could be back together to begin the year.

If they can build off of that and Lafreniere can show a bit more consistency, it would go a long way towards the Rangers’ offense becoming more prolific.
